Before the trades-people or installers arrive at your home there are a few things that you might want to take care of:

If you have pets, be sure that they are secured in an other area of the home where they will not be disturbed or get out for an unplanned outing during the repairs or installation.

If you have small children, you may want to keep them occupied in an other area of the home also. Many times we need to go out to the service vehicle to get tools or parts.

Breakable items, remove these items from the rooms where repairs or new products are to installed.

Electronics, advise trades-people or installers of any wires running under existing flooring in the area where repairs or installations are taking place.

Furniture, be considerate to installers or painters. Move all lamps and kic-nacs from furniture so that workers can easily move furniture when installing flooring or painting.

Coffee breaks, workers who work in your home over two hours, will take coffee breaks. Most seasoned trades-people bring a coffee thermos or cooler with their beverage. However you will come across others who do not. You might want to give them advanced notice that you will make coffee or offer a beverage. This usually keeps the workers on the site and helps advance the progress of the work.

Time of arrival, it is important that both the trades-people and the homeowner pre-arrange the time that they will arrive. If you know the trades-people from previous repairs or installation, you can leave the key under a mat or in the flower box if you have errands to do.

Questions, before, during and afterwards. Do not hesitate to ask your questions.
